Fire Towel

The deep heat of Chinese tradition

A warm, enveloping moist heat, produced by a brief, controlled flame that never touches the skin. Muscles release deeply — on its own, or to prepare the body for another treatment.

What Is the Fire Towel ?

The Fire Towel is a traditional Chinese treatment that uses heat to relax the body deeply. Its name comes from the way that heat is produced : a brief, perfectly controlled flame, passed over a damp towel laid on the skin.

The practitioner covers the area to be treated with several layers of damp cloth. A little alcohol is lit above it, then immediately smothered under a towel. The flame never touches the skin : it is used only to heat the cloth, which then passes on a moist, dense, enveloping heat.

This moist heat reaches deeper than a hot water bottle or an ordinary warm towel. The gesture is repeated several times over the area, in a slow, steady rhythm.

This is a relaxation and comfort treatment. It does not replace medical advice or follow-up care, and it does not provide any diagnosis.

Where Does the Fire Towel Come From ?

The Fire Towel comes from traditional Chinese medicine, where heat has always been one of the great tools of care : it appears in moxibustion, in hot cupping, and here in work with cloth.

In this approach, cold and damp are seen as settling into the body and stiffening it. Deep heat comes to “warm” the area and get the circulation moving again. It is a popular practice, long used in Chinese care houses before being introduced in Europe.

What Needs Does It Address ?

The Fire Towel is especially suited to bodies that feel stiff, tense and cold :

01

Stiffness & Tension

  • Tight back and shoulders
  • Stiff muscles in the morning
  • Tension linked to working posture
02

Feeling the Cold & Damp

  • Feeling cold all the time
  • A heavy body in damp weather
  • Discomfort that returns in winter
03

Preparing for Another Treatment

  • Before a hijama session or massage
  • To loosen up a very tense area
  • To make the next treatment more comfortable

Since needs and sensations are different for everyone, each session is always tailored to the person receiving it.

What Can You Feel During and After the Session ?

During the session, the dominant sensation is a heavy, enveloping heat that sinks slowly into the muscle. Many people doze off. There is no burning or stinging sensation : if the heat becomes too intense, the cloth is removed right away.

Right afterwards, the skin is pink on the treated area : this is normal and fades within one to two hours. The muscles feel noticeably more supple and the body lighter.

In the hours that follow, people often feel a strong need to rest, and sometimes a slight thirst. It is advisable to drink plenty of water and avoid cold and intense exertion until the next day.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, never. Several layers of damp cloth always separate the flame from the skin. The fire is only used to heat the cloth and is put out after a few seconds.

No. The heat you feel is similar to a very hot bath and builds up gradually. The temperature is tested on a small area before the whole area is treated, and the cloth is removed as soon as you ask.

The treated area is often slightly pink right after the treatment. This is a normal reaction to the heat, which fades within one to two hours and leaves no trace.

Yes — this is actually one of its most common uses. By warming the area and loosening the tissue, it makes the Hijama or massage that follows more comfortable.

Yes: on broken, irritated or recently burned skin, in case of fever, and during pregnancy. Please also mention any skin sensitivity before your session.
